Between the 12th century and the 18th century the Bulldog changed a lot because of ininterrupted improvements and crossings with other english breeds reaching its most perfect form during the second half of the 18th century. In this period the Bulldog started to be sold and exported outside England and the number of Bulldogs started to decrease rapidly. In 1820 the Bulldog was already considered near to extinction.
